Wow, less than 6 months until TIN 2013!

To some, that might sound like a long time, but time really will fly...
Let me start with another shout out to Gillian Edwards who did so much work getting KIAS and the TIN undergraduate conference so beautifully launched!

Here is a link to some great photos and videos of past participants talking about TIN and what a wonderful experience it is:

Day One!

So, the first day on TIN 2012 is over and we can't believe it!

After a terrific keynote from Dr David Kahane (which will be posted on the KIAS site shortly after the conference), students moved in their first panels. Over lunch, we headed to the Art Gallery of Alberta for the viewing of some amazing exhibitions by three excellent guides. The afternoon held two more sessions of panels - what a day!

Here are some selected photos from Day One!

Full Program

Here it is - the full, detailed program for TIN 2012. In it, the full schedule is outlined, along with abstract titles, participants, and panel chairs. It's already gone to press, so no changes can be made in this document!

TIN 2012 Program

That time has come. Registration has closed, and the finalized program for the conference is ready!

Feel free to use this for now, but keep in mind that you will receive the full program (with all its gloss) when you register at the conference, along with your bag of swag! Obviously though, if someone falls ill, drops out at the last minute, and so on, your panel may change slightly.

Some of your panels will only be two presenters, so you will have more time for questions only, not for presentations. You will still need to keep yours to 20 minutes so get practicing in front of family, friends, colleagues, strangers on the bus - anyone to help you get your timing down. No one likes being cut-off, especially when you are sharing important research.

If you have any questions, send 'em to Gillian!

ready, set, go!

That's that! Registration is closed and the elite students that were chosen to participate in the 2012 TIN conference have gotten themselves signed up for an amazing experience. In all, we will have 48 students presenting at this year's conference, from Canada, the United States, Mexico, Australia, Norway, Ukraine, The Netherlands, and New Zealand. Exciting!

The tentative program will be posted next week, which will let our presenters know when they will be sharing their research with their colleagues, as well as the social events of the conference. We have a team of ten volunteers to make sure that your conference is an amazing experience, as well as a bunch of extra fun things to do.

As a taste, check out the Art Gallery of Alberta's current exhibitions - TIN presenters will be given a private tour of the gallery and the current exhibitions! http://www.youraga.ca/

We at KIAS are looking forward to meeting all of you. You are joining a great group of students as TIN Alumni.

Conference Basics

For a great number of students attending TIN 2012, this will be their first foray into the world of academic presentations. It can be daunting, nerve-wracking, and exciting - presentations bring out a wide range of emotions!

We asked Canada Research Chair, Dr Cressida Heyes, to share with us her conference basics. She also kindly led a KIAS Masterclass on "Presentations 101: Get Your Point Across," where she gave attending students the basics of a great, memorable, and effective presentation. We all learned a great deal from this great lady and I am glad to be able to share the information with the TIN cohort.

The Conference Basics document can be found here:  Conference Basics

...aaaand we're back!

Well now - it's only one month until the registration for TIN 2012 closes! We have 60 students that have been accepted, from around the world. We are so excited to have a bigger cohort this year, with such strong international representation!

The conference will be an excellent time to promote research, important ideas, and new academics' work.

In the coming weeks, I will be posting more information for attendees so keep checking back or sign up for the email notifications!
